"The latest Budget did very little to have any significant change ahead of the forthcoming election. Most of the main tax changes were announced last year. We now await a probably second Budget after the election which is tipped for May"
Summary of Main tax changes from 6 April 2010:
Personal Allowances Remain at £6,475 up to income of £100,000. After this level they reduce by £1 for every £2 of income. Once earnings reach £112,951 you have no Personal Allowance.
Basic Rate Tax 20% On Earnings from 0 - £37,440
Higher Rate Tax 40% On Earnings from £37,441 - £150,000
Top Rate 50% On Earnings over £150,000
National Insurance remains the same.
The proposed 0.5% increase in Employers and Employees Contribution has been held over to a full 1% increase in 2011-12.
